After a successful year recovering from a serious car crash, Rishabh Pant has been selected to the Indian cricket team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Delhi Capitals player has shown faith in his recovery and has recently played for his team in the Indian Premier League.
Pant, who sustained multiple injuries in December 2022, has a strong record in T20 internationals with 987 runs in 66 matches. He joins Rohit Sharma, who will lead the team as they pursue their second T20 World Cup title, with Hardik Pandya serving as his deputy.
Rinku Singh is among the four reserve players named by the Indian selectors, while Shubman Gill will not be part of the main squad. Instead, Yashasvi Jaiswal will join Rohit as his opening partner. The squad boasts a strong bowling attack led by pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, supported by spinners Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel.
India made it to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup two years ago in Australia and will begin their campaign this year against Ireland in Group A. They will then face arch-rivals Pakistan in what promises to be an exciting matchup between two of the world’s biggest cricket teams. The squad is led by Rohit Sharma and also includes Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube among others.
