Texas high school football games are set to get a technological upgrade, as the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) has approved the use of technology in coaching booths and locker rooms during games and halftime intermissions. However, the use of technology on the sidelines or in team areas during the game is strictly prohibited.
The UIL is not mandating game officials to enforce this rule, but they are expected to report any known or suspected violations. Failure to comply with the technology policy may result in the forfeiture of the game according to UIL’s guidelines.
This new development marks a significant step forward in integrating technology into Texas high school football games. The rule change will go into effect for the 2024 season and aims to modernize the sport by providing teams with additional tools to enhance their performance and strategy. While technology will now be permitted during games, it will be limited to designated areas off the field, further emphasizing the importance of fair play and sportsmanship in high school football.
