A rare side effect of the AstraZeneca vaccine that can cause blood clots has been acknowledged by health authorities. Despite concerns raised by AstraZeneca’s admission that the vaccine could cause blood clots in rare instances, experts have reassured the public that this side effect is extremely rare and typically occurs within 42 days of vaccination. The Director of the Department of Health in Ho Chi Minh City, Tang Chi Thuong, has emphasized that there have been no reported cases of blood clots in the city following the administration of over 9 million doses of the vaccine from March 2021 to June 2023.
Thuong urged people not to fear receiving the vaccine, emphasizing its importance in protecting against severe illness and death from Covid-19. Doctor Truong Huu Khanh, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Infectious Diseases, echoed this sentiment, explaining that blood clotting issues can arise in various clinical situations and are not solely linked to vaccination.
The European Medicines Agency has recommended continued use of the AstraZeneca vaccine while stressing the importance of consultation, detection, and treatment of possible complications that may arise.
