On Wednesday, the Texas Rangers defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-4 in a thrilling game that went to the ninth inning. The winning run was driven in by a clutch pinch-hit double by Josh Smith, who advanced to second on an error by first baseman Spencer Torkelson.
The game started with an error by Tarik Skubal that allowed Marcus Semien to reach base, eventually scoring on Adolis Garcia’s sacrifice fly. Kerry Carpenter tied the game for the Tigers with a home run in the second inning. Fielding errors plagued the Tigers in the sixth inning, allowing the Rangers to score three runs.
Detroit fought back, tying the game in the eighth inning, but ultimately fell short. Dane Dunning started the game for Texas, going five innings before the bullpen took over. Skubal pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Tigers. In a series finale showdown, Rangers’ top draft pick Jack Leiter will make his major league debut while Kenta Maeda will start for Detroit.
