Kremlin asserts that Putin’s suffering may not always be visible

One week has passed since the devastating terrorist attack at a concert hall near Moscow that claimed the lives of 144 people. Despite being known for his stoic demeanor, Vladimir Putin has shown emotion in rare instances, including when he shed tears upon winning the presidential election in 2012. In the aftermath of the attack, Putin was filmed lighting candles in memory of the victims at one of Russia’s presidential residences.

However, despite this gesture, Putin has not attended any ceremony honoring the victims or visited their families or the wounded. The Kremlin reported that the president feels sorry for what happened but has not made any public appearances related to the tragedy. However, Dmitri Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, stated that he feels personally involved in such tragedies, even if he does not show it visibly.

On March 22, gunmen entered Crocus City Hall, a large concert hall near Moscow, and carried out a deadly attack. The assault resulted in 144 fatalities and 551 injuries, making it the deadliest attack in Russia in the last twenty years. The attack was claimed by the jihadist group ISIS-K, sparking outrage and grief across the nation.
