Protecting Children’s Health: Disease Prevention Measures for the Holiday Season

During the holiday season, infectious diseases tend to spread rapidly due to increased travel and large gatherings. To protect children from falling ill, Dr. Bach Thi Chinh, the Medical Director of VNVC Vaccination System, has emphasized the importance of disease prevention measures. Various common diseases can be transmitted to children through respiratory and fecal-oral routes. Respiratory diseases like influenza, measles, chickenpox, whooping cough, and diphtheria are spread through droplets from coughs and contaminated surfaces. On the other hand, fecal-oral route transmission can lead to diseases such as hand, foot and mouth disease, cholera, typhoid, rotavirus, and polio.

To prevent illnesses during this time of year, Dr. Chinh recommends measures such as wearing masks in crowded places, practicing good hygiene habits like washing hands regularly and avoiding touching one’s face. Families should also disinfect common areas where children play to reduce the risk of exposure to infectious diseases. It is crucial for parents to ensure their children receive timely vaccinations against various infectious diseases like measles, polio
