Oklahoma City is set to receive a new addition to its skyline, as Legends Tower, a 581-meter tall skyscraper, is expected to be built. This project will surpass the One World Trade Center in New York by around 40 meters, making it the second tallest building in the US. Although not as common in cities like New York or Chicago, Legends Tower will stand out in Oklahoma City’s smaller population of around 700,000 people.

Legends Tower was initially planned to be the second tallest building in the US but was revised to reach a height of 1,907 feet (581 meters) to commemorate the year Oklahoma became the 46th US state. The tower will feature three smaller buildings standing at 105 meters each and will house around 1,750 residential apartments and a luxury hotel. The estimated project cost is $1.6 billion, including additional structures like water tanks and boardwalks.

Despite some challenges such as financial feasibility and weather concerns like tornadoes in Oklahoma City, the project received approval from the Oklahoma City Planning Commission. Engineers are implementing measures like a thick concrete core and tornado-resistant windows to ensure the tower’s stability and safety. Construction is planned to begin in July of this year, pending a successful city meeting on June 4.
