In recent years, Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory in Roanoke has experienced a surge in demand for their unique services. The business, which specializes in final arrangements for pets, has outgrown its current building and is requesting permission to expand.
Marjene Schrader, the manager of Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory, stated that the business is currently “busting at the seams” and needs to expand to better serve their clients and meet the growing demand for their services. The proposed $308,000 building addition will include a third animal cremation unit and more cold storage to accommodate the increasing number of clients.
The city planning commission will hold a hearing on May 13 to consider the request for expansion. If authorized, Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory plans to move forward with the construction of the new facility. While the cost of equipment needed for expansion was not disclosed, Schrader mentioned that they are prepared to make the investment to improve their services.
Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory charges prices based on the weight of the animal, with nine different zones priced differently. For example, cremating an animal weighing between 6 and 20 pounds currently costs $182. Schrader emphasized that each animal receives individualized care during cremations conducted on a one-pet-at-a-time basis. With over 14 years of experience serving pet owners in Roanoke, Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory remains a trusted resource in times of need.
