In California, NRCS will provide up to $1.5 million in financial assistance in fiscal year 2024 for the MBRI. Agricultural producers in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Texas will also receive funding of up to $1 million each. State Conservationist Mike Sullivan highlighted the importance of creating habitat on private lands in these states’ flyways to sustain migratory bird populations and enhance climate resiliency and carbon stewardship on working lands. The initiative aims to improve habitat for wildlife and promote natural resource conservation by providing more nesting, food, and resting areas for migratory birds.
Agricultural producers interested in receiving financial assistance should submit their applications by May 17, 2024, for funding consideration this year. While applications for EQIP financial assistance are accepted year-round, specific program deadlines are in place for ranking and funding opportunities within each state.
