The 2024 NFL Draft sees a surge in quarterbacks and offensive players taken in top 14 picks of first round

In a historic moment, six quarterbacks were selected in the first 12 picks of the NFL Draft on Thursday night in Detroit. This trend reflects the current emphasis on offense in the league, with quarterbacks being more valuable than ever due to rule changes and the evolution of the passing game.

Among the top 12 selections, other offensive players included wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. (No. 4 to the Cardinals), Malik Nabers (No. 6 to the New York Giants), Rome Odunze (No. 9 to the Bears), offensive tackles Joe Alt (No. 5 to the Chargers) and JC Latham (No. 7 to the Titans), tight end Brock Bowers (No. 13 to the Raiders) and quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy (drafted by the Vikings after a trade for the No. 10 pick) and Bo Nix (No. 12 to the Broncos). The surprise came when Atlanta selected Michael Penix Jr as their No.8 overall pick, despite having recently signed Kirk Cousins to an $180 million deal, following Green Bay’s lead in handling their approach with quarterbacks
