We are delighted to announce the appointment of Gregory Schmidt as our new European business editor. Greg has demonstrated his versatility in the Business department in New York, where he has handled various tasks with grace, good humor, and a sense of urgency. He has edited news and feature stories, written news and feature stories, and managed a live blog.
In his new role, Greg will collaborate with reporters across Europe to oversee coverage on European economies, clean energy transition efforts, and escalating tensions with trade partners. He will also contribute to news coverage from Seoul and kickstart news before the New York office wakes up. The wide variety of responsibilities that come with this role will showcase Greg’s versatility as he continues to shape his career.
Greg’s career began in 2007 when he joined the Business copy desk after working at The Miami Herald for seven years. His experience in writing about tech and video games, as well as his interest in real estate, have been instrumental in shaping his journey. He edited the Square Feet column since 2017, which sparked his interest in real estate coverage. In 2022, he worked as a beat reporter on the Real Estate desk before being awarded a reporting fellowship at Columbia University.
Originally from Southern California, Greg attended the University of Tampa before pursuing graduate studies at the University of Florida. We congratulate him on his new role as European business editor and look forward to his contributions to our team!
