New operators to reopen WakeBrook Behavioral Health Campus in East Raleigh

A behavioral health center in east Raleigh is set to begin accepting patients in May. The WakeBrook Behavioral Health Campus held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday to mark its reopening. The facility, now operated by WakeMed Health and Hospitals and Recovery Innovations (RI), provides services to individuals dealing with mental health crises or substance abuse disorders.

The hospital was previously operated by UNC Health for over a decade before closing last year. Donald Gintzig, the president and CEO of WakeMed Health and Hospitals, mentioned that UNC Health may have had different priorities elsewhere in the state, leading to the closure of the facility. Joy Brunson-Nsubuga, RI’s Chief Operating Officer, explained that they cater to individuals with mental health concerns such as being off medications, relocation stress, suicidal thoughts, and more.

The new Wake Recovery Response Center at WakeBrook features 16 recliner chairs, an urgent care center, and 16 beds. WakeMed will oversee the inpatient unit for those requiring overnight stays. The reopening of WakeBrook signifies a new beginning for individuals in east Raleigh seeking behavioral health services.
