As announced by USA Hockey on Friday, John Hynes of the Minnesota Wild will be the coach for the 2024 U.S. men’s national team at the upcoming IIHF men’s world championship in Czechia. The event is set to take place from May 10-26 in Prague and Ostrava. Hynes, who last coached the national team in 2019 and recently completed his first season as head coach of the Wild in the NHL, brings a wealth of expertise to the role with coaching experience at both the NHL and AHL levels.
Brett Peterson, general manager of the 2024 U.S. men’s national team and a member of Florida Panthers’ management team, expressed confidence in Hynes’ leadership skills. Peterson highlighted Hynes’ passion, energy and extensive experience on the world stage as key strengths that will benefit the national team in their quest for gold. Hynes is a native of Warwick, Rhode Island, and has a longstanding history with USA Hockey having served as head coach for national team development program from 2003-2009. He also has personal success in collegiate hockey where he competed in four NCAA Frozen Fours and secured a championship win in 1995 before embarking on his professional career
