Lynchburg’s Centra Health Welcomes New Leadership

After serving as CEO for three years, Amy Carrier has stepped down from her position at Centra Health in Lynchburg. In her place, the healthcare system has appointed Richard Tugman as interim CEO while a search for a permanent leader continues.

Thomas Nygaard, chairman of Centra’s board of directors, stated that the decision to change leadership was made through respectful discussions with Carrier. He emphasized the dynamic nature of the healthcare industry and how leadership changes are more frequent now than in the past.

As interim CEO, Tugman will lead Centra forward and oversee ongoing projects such as a behavioral health and rehabilitation hospital and a new medical office building. The need for a larger and updated emergency room will also be addressed through the construction of a new patient care tower.

Nygaard mentioned that with Tugman in place as interim CEO, Centra has the flexibility to take their time in selecting a permanent CEO without a specific timeline in place. However, he remains committed to providing quality care and expanding services for the Lynchburg community.
