In recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Month, school leaders in Garden City are taking steps to break down the stigma surrounding discussions about children’s mental health. Dr. Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, will meet with state and local officials at Garden City Elementary School to promote open conversations and provide support for students, families, and caregivers.
During this event, there will be a focus on mental health awareness, with leaders engaging in conversations with students about their well-being. The goal is to provide resources and intervention opportunities within Rhode Island schools. This event coincides with National Mental Health Awareness Month and will kick off at 9:30 a.m. It is a significant step towards supporting the mental well-being of children in the community.
In addition to promoting mental health awareness, Garden City Elementary School has also been recognized for their efforts in reducing environmental impact, improving the health and wellness of students and staff, and offering sustainability education. The school recently received a Green Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education for these achievements. Dr. Delphin-Rittmon will have the opportunity to tour the new school, which includes wellness spaces that promote mental health.
