Long Islanders built the facility and field at Eisenhower Park for this year’s Cricket World Cup, which will host eight games. The stadium will seat 34,000 fans and John Sulinski of Landtek installed the main pitch and field where the matches will take place. Don Lockerbie, a Stony Brook native and part of the organizing committee for the tournament, hopes that bringing cricket to a larger audience in the United States can help the sport grow. He expressed his excitement about having a Cricket World Cup in the United States, calling it “amazing.” The stadium will be dismantled after the games are done, but the field constructed for the tournament will remain. The Cricket World Cup games will kick off on June 3, bringing an exciting showcase of talent and skill to Long Island.
