A 36-year-old man from Stirling Road in Northstowe, Cambridge, has admitted to burgling eight businesses. He entered his plea at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on 12 April after a spate of break-ins at businesses in Cambridge during March, including at takeaways and stores. In relation to two of the break-ins, another man received an 18-month suspended sentence.
The incidents were reported by police, who remanded Robert Rust in custody for sentencing at Cambridge Crown Court on 6 May. The news of the break-ins has sparked concern among local residents and business owners, who are calling for increased security measures to be put in place.
Rust’s actions have had a significant impact on the community, with many businesses reporting losses due to the thefts. It is hoped that his sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who may be considering similar crimes.
