LG Uplus Corp., South Korea’s No. 3 mobile carrier, has introduced an artificial intelligence agent platform based on its own AI technology ixi in an effort to find new growth opportunities in the saturated local telecom market. The company launched the Chat Agent platform, an AI agent capable of understanding professional questions and commands that are not pre-programmed, distinguishing it from traditional bots that are only designed for specific tasks.
By combining the Chat Agent platform with ixi’s natural-language understanding (NLU) and large language model (LLM), LG Uplus can provide improved customer service while protecting personal information and reducing time and costs. The platform is currently being utilized by the company in its customer service centers, subscription product recommendation, and business solution sales division. Sung Joon Hyun, LG Uplus vice president for its AI business, expressed that the platform exceeded expectations during an online press conference unveiling the technology.
Looking forward, LG Uplus plans to expand the Chat Agent platform across all its business sectors, including mobile and internet protocol television, while also extending the service to small and medium-sized business clients in the latter half of the year. The company is also eyeing opportunities in the business-to-business market, particularly in AI call centers. By accumulating data and insights from the Chat Agent platform, LG Uplus intends to offer related services to customers to meet their evolving needs. In addition to this, LG Uplus aims to enhance the platform’s capabilities by incorporating its generative AI model ixi-GEN, which is set to be launched in the first half of the year.
