The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame recently inducted two Texas A&M legends, Anjanette Kirkland and Andrea Williams, into its Class of 2024. The induction ceremony took place at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio.

Kirkland, a former track & field athlete from Holmes High School in San Antonio, excelled as a hurdler during her time at Texas A&M from 1993-97. She won multiple conference titles and earned All-America honors. Kirkland is already a member of several prestigious halls of fame, including the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame, the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame, and the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame. Currently serving as the head track and field coach at Cypress Woods High School in Houston, Kirkland continues to inspire young athletes to reach their full potential on the track.

Williams attended Churchill High School and played volleyball and basketball for Texas A&M from 1992-1995. She was the first Aggie to letter in both sports in the same year and helped lead both teams to the NCAA Sweet 16. After her successful career as an athlete, Williams found success in athletics administration and currently serves as the Chief Experience Officer for the NBA’s Utah Jazz.

The San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame also recognized former Converse Judson High School football coach Jim Rackley and Julius Whittier, who became the first Black football letterman at the University of Texas during his time with the Longhorns from 1888-1892.
