300 thousand more workers celebrate on May 1st this year

In February 2024, the number of employed people in Italy increased by 292 thousand compared to April 2023, according to the latest provisional data from Istat. This means that almost 300 thousand more workers are celebrating May 1st this year compared to last year. The CGIA Research Office highlighted that the number of employed people in Italy rose to 23,773,000 in February 2024 from 23,481,000 in April 2023.

The artisans of Mestre noted that 98 percent of companies in Italy have fewer than 20 employees, and around 60 percent of Italian workers are employed by these small businesses. The CGIA emphasized the importance of supporting small entrepreneurs to improve employment trends by cutting taxes, reducing bureaucracy, and providing necessary liquidity for investments to increase competitiveness. Istat reported that in 2023, the number of employed people in Italy reached 23.6 million units, with a significant growth in the Southern regions. Forecasts indicate that the overall number of employed people is expected to reach 24 million by 2025.
