On Saturday, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani held a meeting to discuss the impact of the recent rain wave. In attendance were several officials from various ministries, including the Ministers of Interior and Trade, the Mayor of Baghdad, the General Coordinator for Governorate Affairs, and others.
During the meeting, al-Sudani was briefed on the extensive effects of the rainfall on service levels and agricultural lands. The purpose of the meeting was to assess and contain effectively the damage caused by the rain wave. Al-Sudani highlighted the challenges faced by government due to coincidence of rainfall with harvesting operations and ongoing service projects. He discussed situation regarding harvesting, marketing and grain storage operations as well as water levels in dams and measures taken to maximize water storage and utilization.
The Iraqi Minister of Interior presented a report detailing actions taken by its National Center for Crisis and Disaster Management in response to recent rains. Al-Sudani directed continued efforts in mobilizing service and relief assistance for those affected by flood waves. He emphasized on intensified efforts to market grains in light of current weather conditions in Iraq.
