Clark responded and Doyel made a comment that was considered inappropriate and sparked backlash. Doyel later issued an apology, acknowledging that his comment was clumsy and awkward.
It is unclear if Doyel will cover the team at all during the season, as the parent company of IndyStar, Gannett, did not respond to inquiries about this matter. CNN has reached out to Doyel for comment, but it is not known if he will provide a statement.
