The Indian cricket team has announced its 15-member squad for the men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place in the West Indies and the USA in June. Rohit Sharma has been named as the captain of the team, while Hardik Pandya has been appointed as his vice-captain.
The selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar included Virat Kohli, who was the leading run-scorer at the IPL 2024, in the squad. Rishabh Pant is set to make a comeback to the Indian cricket team after recovering from a car accident in December 2022. Sanju Samson has also been included as another wicketkeeper in the squad. Shubman Gill only made it to the reserves list, while Rinku Singh was also included among them.
India’s middle-order player Shivam Dube has been selected for his consistency with India and Chennai Super Kings. Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja have been chosen as spin all-rounders, with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal making up India’s pace battery. The fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan have also been included in the squad as reserves.
Rohit Sharma is currently the only member of this squad who was part of India’s winning team at the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 when they defeated Pakistan in their final match. The team will begin their campaign against Ireland on New York before facing Pakistan on June 9th at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
