Nico Wiener punched the air in triumph after securing a better 10 in his quarterfinal tiebreak against Mathias Fullerton, the current Hyundai Archery World Cup Champion. This victory earned Wiener a spot in the second compound men’s final four of his career. The giant Austrian will be up against Korea’s Yang Jaewon, under-21 world champion Priyansh, and Nick Kappers in the upcoming match.
Wiener expressed his happiness and acknowledged the challenge of shooting against Fullerton, who is considered the best at the moment. Despite acknowledging some luck in his win, Wiener credited his improvement and dedication to the sport for his success. Fullerton, who was seeded first, performed strongly throughout the event but finished in seventh place after the quarterfinal match with Wiener.
In the compound women’s category, Andrea Becerra, the top qualifier, managed to secure a spot in the semifinals after defeating Aditi Swami, the reigning World Archery Champion, in the quarterfinals. Becerra, who was runner-up to Swami in previous championships, will face off against Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Meeri-Marita Paas, and Alexis Ruiz in upcoming matches. India is represented by Jyothi Surekha Vennam in the compound women’s semifinals.
