During a high school senior skip day party in Greenbelt, Maryland, five people were shot at a park. The incident occurred at Hanover Parkway in Prince George’s County, where hundreds of students had gathered for the event. Shots were fired around 2:30 p.m., leaving victims aged 16 to 18 injured.
The victims were taken to the hospital, with one in critical condition and the others in stable condition. Police Chief Rick Bowers expressed his sympathy for the victims, emphasizing that they were just young people trying to have fun. Unfortunately, this senseless act of violence has left many questioning the state of our world where high school students can’t gather in peace.
While no arrests have been made, police believe there is a suspect who fled the scene during the chaos. Bowers, along with the Mayor and city manager, promised to bring the perpetrator to justice and asked for the public’s cooperation in solving the case. Greenbelt Mayor Emmett V. Jordan questioned how we have come so far as a society when such events occur regularly.
