Hendrick Motorsports continued its impressive run at Martinsville Speedway by winning for the 29th time at the Virginia short track. The team’s latest victory came thanks to William Byron, who led 88 laps on his way to claiming victory in Sunday’s Cup race.
Joining Byron in the top five were Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Bubba Wallace, and Ryan Blaney. The race saw a total of five cautions, including two for stage ends, which added up to 15 laps. Unfortunately, two drivers, David Starr and John Hunter Nemechek, were unable to finish the race.
After eight races in the Cup season, it’s clear that two teams have emerged as dominant forces: Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing. Hendrick Motorsports has four wins so far this season, with Byron earning three and Larson one. Meanwhile, Joe Gibbs Racing has also claimed three victories, thanks to Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell.
Trackhouse Racing is the only other Cup team to have scored a win this season, with Daniel Suarez taking home the victory at Atlanta. With eight races remaining in the season, it’s anyone’s race for the championship – but one thing is for sure: these teams are dominating the sport so far.
