The Lions recently unveiled their new uniforms for the 2022 season in collaboration with Nike. The uniforms feature a richer tone of Honolulu Blue reminiscent of their early 1990s look, as well as true silver that has made a comeback in various elements of the uniform, including outlines and stripes, as well as in the team’s traditional pants.
One of the highlights of the new uniform is the introduction of black as an alternate option, with a black jersey featuring Honolulu Blue lettering outlined in silver. The team also introduced all-black alternate pants that can be paired with an alternate blue helmet. Lions president Rod Wood expressed excitement about the new era of Lions football and the evolution of the team’s iconic colors while paying homage to the past and looking towards the future.
The inspiration for the new uniforms came from Ford Motor Company’s relaunch of the Bronco in 2021, creating a modernized classic look that captures the essence of Detroit and its multi-generational fan base that supports the Lions. The combination of traditional primary jerseys and bold alternate jerseys reflects the team’s commitment to honoring its history while embracing change and innovation.
