UF biochemistry undergraduate student Nicole Hernandez was actively involved in Medi-Gators, a shadowing program that provided her with valuable exposure and experiences in the healthcare field. Through this program, she gained insights into the various career options available in healthcare, which can be challenging to navigate.
Hernandez found it eye-opening to see how teams work together and develop essential communication skills for success. She also virtually shadowed health care professionals, which strengthened her resolve to continue on the pre-med track. Hernandez is set to graduate in May 2024 and plans to apply to medical school after taking a gap year.
Medi-Gators aims to provide mentorship to its members and offers valuable exposure and experiences in the healthcare field. The program helped Hernandez gain a better understanding of the different paths she can take in her pursuit of a medical career.
