The Yankees have added right-handed reliever Michael Tonkin to their roster after claiming him off waivers from the Mets. This move allows Tonkin, who has been designated for assignment three times this season, to continue playing in New York.
Tonkin started the season with the Mets but was DFA’d and traded to the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations. He only appeared in one game for the Twins before being DFA’d again and picked up by the Mets. However, he made just two appearances before being DFA’d by the Mets once more.
Despite having a 6.00 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 9.0 innings over six appearances this season, Tonkin has had a challenging year. In order to add Tonkin to the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated right-handed pitcher McKinley Moore for assignment.
