The city of Cumming will be hosting its first Mental Health Summit later this month, with the goal of creating a supportive environment for conversations about mental health in the community. This event is set to become an annual occurrence, and Mayor Troy Brumbalow plans to declare May as mental health awareness month at an upcoming city council meeting.
The summit is scheduled for Monday, May 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Forsyth Conference Center on Ronald Reagan Parkway. It will be organized by the Forsyth County Mental Health & Wellness Advocates group, who aim to break down barriers and promote understanding about mental health in the community. Among the speakers at the event will be Maureen Bixler, LCSW at Live Life Counseling, former Georgia State Representative Mike Dudgeon, Commissioner Cindy Mills, and a special resident testimony. They will address the mental health challenges faced by youth in schools and the wellness needs of the community.
This year’s summit will focus on “Faces of Mental Health,” aiming to shed light on the various aspects of mental health in the community. The organizers hope that by coming together and engaging in discussions, they can positively impact the well-being of the community and encourage open conversations about mental health.
