A 55-year-old former headmaster from Saxony, who was convicted of serious child sexual abuse, was captured in Cambodia more than a year after he escaped. The man had been sentenced to three years and one month in prison at the end of 2022 for abusing a 13-year-old student in the school library in May 2021.
Prior to this incident, schoolgirls had made similar allegations in 2016 and 2018, but the proceedings were discontinued by the public prosecutor due to lack of evidence. However, the case was reopened after the last incident. Following his conviction, the man fled abroad and uncovered flight bookings to Cambodia and information that he had opened a guesthouse there.
Unfortunately, investigators were unable to extradite him from Cambodia to Germany. However, when his visa in Cambodia expired on March 6th, he was arrested by local police and subsequently flown to Bangkok in Thailand. Officers from the Saxony State Criminal Police Office and the Görlitz Police Department took custody of him there. The man is now awaiting trial in Germany for his crimes against children.
