A recent study found that the most common cause of facial sagging is aging, and one of the most popular solutions to this problem is the eyebrow lift procedure. However, not all eyebrow lifts are created equal. In fact, two women who underwent the procedure at separate unlicensed facilities experienced severe complications that left them with scarring and disfigurement.
Minh, a 51-year-old woman, visited a facial spa where a consultant recommended she “lift her eyebrows” to enhance her fortune and change her luck. The consultant explained that Minh’s drooping eyelids were making her face look heavy and aged, and that lifting her eyebrows would not only attract fortune and prosperity but also make her look years younger and gain respect from others. Convinced by the promise of these benefits, Minh agreed to undergo the procedure.
After the procedure, Minh experienced redness and swelling in the eyebrow area. Despite returning to the spa and receiving antibiotics as prescribed, her wound continued to worsen, developing deep pustules. Additionally, her upper eyelids remained sagging as they were before the procedure. In mid-April, Minh sought help from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, where doctors noted severe infection and pustules along her eyebrows, with potential for lasting scars even after treatment.
