The annual Animal Science Discover Day is a must-attend event for all youth aged 8-18 years old. Taking place on May 29th at the NCTA Campus in Curtis, NE, this exciting day will provide participants with an immersive learning experience that covers various aspects of livestock production and careers.
Nebraska Extension educators, UNL Animal Science professors, and NCTA teachers will lead the seven different workshops that will take place throughout the day. The sessions are designed to be fun and engaging, allowing participants to learn in a relaxed environment while gaining valuable knowledge about science, agricultural literacy, and technology.
Participants will be divided into junior and senior tracts to allow for more in-depth learning for older youth. This means that they can focus on specific topics related to their interests and career goals. Topics covered during the workshops include meat science, calving simulation, genetics, animal behavior, and more.
The sessions are open to not only youth but also parents and adults interested in the livestock industry and educating young people. Registration is $15/participant if registered by May 22; otherwise late registration is $20/participant. This fee includes lunch provided by the Frontier County 4-H Council and Ag Valley Co-op. For more information about registering or to receive additional details about the event, contact Kimberly at kimberly.cook@unl.edu.
Overall, the Animal Science Discover Day is a valuable opportunity for youth interested in pursuing careers related to animal science or exploring their interests in livestock production. It provides an immersive learning experience that they can apply not only to their 4-H projects but also throughout their future careers in this exciting field
