In Ellsworth, Maine, residents are once again joining the thousands of cities worldwide in participating in Jane’s Walk. Started in Toronto in 2006 to honor writer and activist Jane Jacobs, the event encourages people to engage with their neighborhoods and develop a sense of pride for where they live and work.
This year, Ellsworth will host two walks on Saturday, with one focusing on nature and the other centered around historical Ellsworth. The nature walk will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the River Walk North trail head behind the Ellsworth Public Library, while the historical walk will start at 3:00 p.m. at the Old Burial Grounds on State Street. These walks are being organized by Heart of Ellsworth in partnership with GrowSmart Maine and the Ellsworth Historical Society.
Those interested in participating are encouraged to register for the walks on the Heart of Ellsworth website to find more information and get involved in the community event. By bringing people together to explore and learn about their surroundings, a sense of community pride and connection is fostered. Through engaging with neighbors and the local environment, participants can develop a deeper appreciation for the place they call home.
