On May 8, four workers from Cho Lon Electricity Company sustained severe burns while repairing an underground cable line in District 8. The accident resulted in an electrical short circuit, fire, and explosion. They were rushed to Cho Ray Hospital for treatment.
Dr. Ngo Duc Hiep, head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Cho Ray Hospital, reported that the most severely injured patient was a 28-year-old male with 2nd and 3rd degree burns covering 80% of his body. The patient had burns on his head, chest, abdomen, limbs, and eyes. Emergency doctors provided pain relief, intravenous fluids, tetanus prevention, blood tests, and CT scans for the patient.
The other three patients included a 46-year-old man with burns on his head and face, a 37-year-old man with burns on his ear and hands, and a 37-year-old with burns on his hand and ankle. They were treated for pain relief and tetanus prevention before being discharged from the hospital.
Dr. Hiep noted that the patient’s prognosis was still difficult due to the extent of his burns. The incident highlights the dangers of working with electricity and underscores the importance of proper safety measures to prevent accidents like this one from occurring in the future.
