The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team is set to make history by participating in the UTR Sports NIT Championship for the first time. After a successful season that saw them win 20 games and reach the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, the Colonels will take on seven other teams in the tournament held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. from May 5-8.
Following their impressive performance during the regular season, EKU will now have the opportunity to showcase their skills on a national stage. This marks their first national postseason tournament appearance since 2015 when they played against No. 5 Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament. Despite falling short in the ASUN Conference Championship against Stetson, EKU had an outstanding season with 20 wins, which is second only to their program record.
The quarterfinals for the UTR Sports NIT Championship will kick off on May 5th, with EKU’s opponent yet to be determined. The team has faced tough competition throughout their season and has shown resilience and determination in each match. They achieved their first ITA team ranking, reaching as high as No. 74 and Evzen Holis was named to the First Team All-ASUN for his exceptional performance in singles.
Fans can tune into Amazon Prime Video during the tournament to catch all of EKU’s matches live. They can also follow EKU Tennis on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for updates on their historic postseason run. This is a significant milestone for this program, and we wish them all the best as they compete at this level!
