Robert Mazur, a seasoned government agent, shares his harrowing experiences investigating drug money laundering in his new book “The Infiltrator.” Mazur’s undercover operations have taken him deep into the heart of some of the most notorious drug cartels in history.
In Operation C-Chase, Mazur posed as a wealthy businessman named Robert Musella to infiltrate the Medellín cartel. Through this disguise, he was able to establish connections with key figures such as Pablo Escobar’s lawyer Gonzalo Mora and trafficker Roberto Alcaino. At its peak, the Medellín cartel supplied over 80% of all cocaine shipped to the US, totaling around 15 tons per day.
Mazur then moved on to Operation Promo where he posed as an Italian American businessman named Robert Baldasare to expose money laundering networks linked to the Cali cartel. This powerful organization was estimated to have produced 80% of the world’s cocaine supply and was controlled by individuals like Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela and Miguel Rodríguez Orejuela.
Today, Mazur continues to share his expertise on money laundering, drug trafficking, and corruption through his company KYC Solutions. He has also written two memoirs – “The Betrayal,” which focuses on his second undercover operation within the Cali cartel, and “The Infiltrator,” which details his investigation of the Medellín cartel.
