Dexter High School is introducing a new course that aligns with its strategic plan of preparing students for the 21st century by integrating technology into education. The course, called Music Technology, aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and technological proficiency among students.
The idea for the Music Technology course was proposed by Grace Wolfe, the Director of Bands at DHS. It was approved at the April 29 meeting. Wolfe explained that the course will provide students with skills necessary for modern music production and technology-driven music industries.
The semester-long class will be open to students with varying musical backgrounds, experience levels, and interests. Students will have the opportunity to learn about various software, technologies, and musical devices. They will also get to practice live sampling in a hands-on environment. The course will emphasize core concepts such as digital audio production, sound design, music software proficiency, electronic composition, MIDI sequencing, and an understanding of emerging technologies in the music industry.
Mara Greaterox, President of the Dexter Community Schools Board of Education expressed excitement about the new course saying it will be a valuable opportunity for music program students and those who want to be involved in the program but may not want to play an instrument. The Music Technology course will be introduced in the upcoming school year providing students with an innovative and engaging educational experience.
