A former employee of CoreCivic of Tennessee LLC has filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging wrongful discharge and disability discrimination. The ex-employee claims that his termination from his position as a unit manager in Shelby, Montana, was unjustified and violated state employment laws.
CoreCivic contends that they fired the worker due to allegations that he retaliated against a Hispanic subordinate who had reported him for mocking her accent. However, the former employee argues that he suffered from anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions that made it difficult for him to perform his job duties effectively. He believes that these conditions were not adequately accommodated by the company, leading to his termination.
The trial will offer both sides an opportunity to present their arguments and evidence. If the jury determines that the ex-employee’s termination was justified, then CoreCivic’s actions will be deemed legal. On the other hand, if the jury finds that there was a violation of employment and disability discrimination laws, then CoreCivic may face penalties and damages. Ultimately, this trial will determine whether CoreCivic acted legally in this case or if they discriminated against an employee with mental health issues.
