In Fairbanks, the “Fairbanks at 50+: The Art & Science of Aging Summit” is returning for two days to help locals navigate the aging process. This event, open to everyone, will be held at the Carlson Center on May 9th and 10th. The summit aims to celebrate, inspire and empower individuals who are 50 years old and older.
The two-day event kicks off with the annual Fairbanks North Star Borough Senior Recognition Day Luncheon, which includes a resource fair, entertainment, and luncheon. Reservations are required for the luncheon, with doors opening at 10 a.m., and the ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. Following the luncheon, participants have the opportunity to join a leisurely stroll along the Chena River walking path, sponsored by Timber Creek Assisted Living Facility.
On Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the event offers a free day of learning about well-being in aging. More than 40 vendors will provide information, classes and demonstrations on topics such as arthritis management, dementia care, financial literacy and support for aging at home. Special guest presentations from AARP include sessions on home gardening and cooking.
Alaska Health Fair Screening will offer health screenings on Friday from 8 a.m., to 2 p.m., showcasing the wisdom and care among Fairbanks residents who are dedicated to making Fairbanks an age-friendly community. This is a collaborative effort by Community Health Improvement Plan Senior Care Team addressing challenges and opportunities of aging in Fairbanks.
