Canada won their fifth gold medal in the under-18 men’s world hockey championship with a thrilling 6-4 victory over the United States. Gavin McKenna led the charge with a hat trick and an assist, helping Canada rally back from an early 3-1 deficit. Cole Beaudoin, Tij Iginla, and Ryder Ritchie also contributed goals in the third period, sealing the win for Canada. Goalie Carter George made 31 saves to secure the victory.
On the other hand, Cole Hutson stood out for the U.S. with a goal and two assists, while Christian Humphreys, Cole Eiserman, and Brodie Ziemer added goals of their own. Nicholas Kempf made 19 saves in net for the Americans but couldn’t stop Canada’s comeback.
In the bronze medal match, Love Harenstam put on a stellar performance for Sweden, stopping all 36 shots from Slovakia to secure a 4-0 victory. Lucas Pettersson broke the scoreless tie early in the third period with goals from Melvin Fernstrom, Alfons Freij, and Victor Eklund solidifying the win for Sweden. Alan Lendak made 25 saves for Slovakia in a losing effort.
With this victory over Russia on Sunday night at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada has now won five gold medals at this tournament since its inception in 2009
