In the RGV region, mental health challenges are prevalent and require immediate attention. To address these challenges, South Texas College (STC) President Ricardo Solis recently collaborated with South Texas Health System to host a panel discussion in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. The event, titled “CommUNITY: Shattering the Stigma Surrounding Mental Health as a Community Through Education, Communication & Support,” brought together experts from various sectors including healthcare, education, private industry, law enforcement, and the judicial system.
The panel discussion aimed to shed light on the current issues in mental health treatment and find ways to provide assistance to individuals facing mental health challenges in the RGV area. By bringing together professionals from different sectors, the event sought to foster a holistic approach to mental health treatment and reduce the barriers that prevent individuals from seeking help.
President Ricardo Solis delivered opening remarks that set the tone for the discussion on mental health awareness. His speech highlighted the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting education, communication, and support within the community. Experts from various sectors shared their knowledge and perspectives on mental health during the event, with a focus on collaboration and community support.
Through education, communication, and support, the event sought to create a more inclusive and compassionate community that prioritizes mental health awareness and well-being. The panel discussion served as a platform for experts to share their knowledge and perspectives on mental health while fostering a sense of community in addressing these issues.
