The Kai Tak Sports Park Limited and ASM Global have announced a late-winter testing period for Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park, an ambitious $4 billion, multi-venue sports district project set to open in early 2025. The project, which has been underway for nearly a decade, features the centerpiece Kai Tak Stadium, a 50,000-seat venue with a retractable roof and flexible playing surface. Surrounding the stadium are a 10,000-capacity indoor sports arena and a 5,000-spectator public sports ground for school events and athletic competitions.

ASM Global has been managing the project from the start, handling premium sales and programming. Once the district opens in early 2025, they will also operate it. Populous handled the master planning and design of the venues while Simon Kwan & Associates served as the architect of record. ADI Limited designed the landscape architecture, and Arup provided engineering services.

The district is built around Kai Tak Sports Avenue, which connects all the venues and features amenities such as restaurants, retail shops, jogging trails, a health and wellness center with solar panels on its roof to provide energy to nearby buildings. A bowling center with 40 lanes is also located on this avenue along with a climbing wall.

Sustainability is at the forefront of this project as green roofscapes are integrated into building designs throughout the district to reduce carbon emissions from heating and cooling systems. Electric charging stations are also strategically placed around the district to accommodate electric vehicles’ growing popularity in Hong Kong’s transportation sector. Smart city initiatives include an intelligent building management system that monitors energy use in real-time; Wi-Fi hotspots that offer free internet access; an indoor positioning system that helps visitors navigate through the complex; mobile applications for facility booking and wayfinding that allow users to book events or find their way around easily using their smartphones or tablets.

Located next to Victoria Harbor in central Hong Kong’s bustling financial district, this state-of-the-art sports park aims to become one of Asia’s premier sports entertainment destinations for residents and tourists alike.

The late winter testing period will allow ASM Global to test various features of this massive project before its grand opening in early 2025. This includes everything from lighting systems to audio equipment to seating arrangements inside each venue space.

As construction continues on this ambitious project overseeing ASM Global will continue working closely with all partners involved including Populous, Simon Kwan & Associates, ADI Limited
