Persistent car break-ins in busy Dekalb County community causing frustration among business owners

A recent spike in car break-ins has left business owners and workers in one Dekalb County community feeling frustrated. With 40 break-ins already this year, all within a one-mile radius around Snapfinger Woods Dr. and Interstate 20, the community is on high alert. Surveillance videos have captured thieves using nearby woods and holes in fences as shortcuts and hiding spots, making it difficult for police to catch them. They break into car windows, quickly grab items inside, and run off, always concealing their faces with hoodies.

One customer, Quentalyn Stephens, spoke out about her frustration saying, “Do something better!” Stephens had her car stolen in the same area last year and knows firsthand the feeling of violation that comes with it. Despite warnings from surveillance videos, the presence of daylight, and the number of people around to catch them, the thieves continue their brazen activities without fear of being caught.

Business owners and workers in the area are hesitant to speak out publicly due to fear of retaliation from the thieves. However, they are hoping for increased police patrols to help deter future break-ins and keep their community safe.
