Preventing Sore Throat and Summer Pneumonia: Tips for Success

As the summer season approaches, it is crucial to take proactive measures to boost your immune system and reduce the risk of respiratory illnesses such as sore throat and pneumonia. Dr. Huynh Tran An Khuong, Medical Manager at VNVC Vaccination System, emphasizes the importance of vaccination during hot weather to prevent diseases. With the increasing temperatures and increased use of air conditioning, there is a higher risk of flu, pneumonia, and bronchitis. To help you protect yourself from these illnesses, here are six tips from Dr. Khuong:

Firstly, get vaccinated against infectious pathogens that tend to develop in summer weather conditions. Vaccines for influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, and bronchitis are highly effective in preventing these illnesses. It is recommended that individuals of all ages follow vaccination schedules for active immunity against these diseases.

Secondly, use your air conditioning unit properly by maintaining a stable temperature between 26-28 degrees Celsius and cleaning it regularly to prevent pathogens from spreading. Avoid excessive cold showers and stay hydrated to keep your body healthy. Additionally, practicing good oral hygiene can also help prevent respiratory diseases during the summer months.

Thirdly, avoid close contact with people who are sick or have respiratory issues in crowded places like public transportation or busy offices. Wear a mask when in public areas and disinfect your hands regularly to minimize the risk of infection. Don’t spit in public places or swallow your saliva as it can spread bacteria that can cause respiratory illnesses like sore throat and pneumonia.

Fourthly, maintain a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables that strengthen your immune system naturally. Eating vitamin C-rich foods like strawberries and bell peppers can help boost your immune system while avoiding processed foods that are high in sugar and salt can weaken it further.

Fifthly, get enough sleep every night as lack of sleep weakens the immune system significantly making you more prone to respiratory illnesses like flu and pneumonia.

Lastly, practice stress management techniques like meditation or yoga every day as chronic stress weakens the immune system too.

By following these tips and adopting healthy habits throughout the year but especially during summer months when respiratory illnesses are more common; you can protect yourself from getting sick or developing complications related to them
