Andrea and Zack Sciuto’s shared dream of opening a bookshop in Douglas came true last year, but after just over a year, they have decided to close the shop permanently due to inadequate foot traffic. The couple had always seen opening a bookstore as an adventure for their family, but after much consideration, they realized that the store was struggling.
Andrea managed the shop while Zack supported them through his tree-cutting business. Initially, the store saw a lot of business, but over time, it began to decline. The couple had about 2,400 titles in their collection, most of which were donated or purchased for a low price. The books were all 50% off their original price and were mostly in like-new or really good condition. They had dreamed of opening the bookshop since their time at Syracuse University and saw it as an adventure for their family.
When they opened the shop, they had promotions for the remaining time the shop is open and may donate any remaining books to local libraries. Although she loved having a bookstore, Andrea prefers to focus on the happiness it brought them while they had it and remains optimistic about what the future holds for them.
