Illinois Congresswoman enthusiastic about the expanding “bio-economy”

Illinois Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski, who represents the 13th district, is thrilled about the growing “bio-economy” and the opportunities it presents for Illinois corn and soybean growers. She spoke to reporters at the National Association of Farm Broadcasting’s Washington Watch about the development of a bioindustry based on crops grown in central and southern Illinois.

Budzinski sees the expansion of biofuels markets as a critical component of this growing industry. She believes that biofuels can play an important role in reducing carbon emissions while also supporting family farmers and growers in the state.

In addition to biofuels, Budzinski is excited about a potential “tech hub” designation for her district, which would bring new markets for agricultural stakeholders. She mentioned that her district is a finalist to be a tech hub in bioprocessing and fermentation, which could create new opportunities for family farmers in the area.

The final decision on the tech hub designation is expected in the summer, but in the meantime, Budzinski is advocating for the Next Gen Fuels Act in Congress. She believes that a combination of public and private sector collaboration can lead to the creation of a new industry that will benefit family farmers in Illinois.
