The city was ranked fifth overall in the world, and tied for first place in the United States for the cleanest metropolitan areas in terms of ozone levels. Additionally, Bangor was also tied for first place in the category of the cleanest metropolitan areas for 24-hour particle pollution.
On the other hand, Long Beach, California was ranked as the most polluted city for ozone, while Bakersfield, California ranked the worst for year-round and short-term particle pollution. The cities with the cleanest year-round particle pollution levels were ranked based on their average levels of particles, as calculated by the EPA.
