U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) has named The Bakery on Broadway in Audubon County as her Small Business of the Week. As Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, Ernst plans to highlight a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties throughout her term in Congress.
Kate Hargens, founder of The Bakery on Broadway, has brought a taste of the West Coast to Audubon with her delicious baked goods and custom cakes. Her establishment, which opened in 2020, has become a hub for community events such as “What’s Happening in Audubon” forums and “Art on Broadway” exhibitions to support local artists.
With a background as a food scientist and licensed at-home baker, Kate Hargens is actively involved in the community. She served as president of the Children’s Nest Childcare Center and was part of the fundraising committee for the Audubon Rec Center. In recognition of her dedication, she was named Audubon Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year in 2016.
