Ella Gibson’s 715-point world record was challenged by Becerra, but she fell short of breaking it. She managed to score 713 points, which was a personal best in international competition. Despite not setting a new record, she was happy with her performance, as most of her shots were very close to the center.
Qualifying in the top spot was a significant goal for Becerra, and she achieved it by staying focused and not getting too caught up in the score. She also noted that her shots that weren’t perfect were still very close to the center, which added to her satisfaction with her performance.
The top eight qualifiers in the competition received bonus points towards the Hyundai Archery World Cup Ranking. Some of Becerra’s main competitors include Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Sara Lopez, and Aditi Swami, who qualified in eighth place with 704 points. The compound women’s competition had no top-64 cut, while Jesse Sut won a shoot-off to secure the last spot in the bracket for the compound men’s event. Korea qualified in first place for both the compound men’s and mixed team events, while India took pole position in the compound women’s team event.
The competition will continue with compound team eliminations in the morning before moving on to recurve qualifying in the afternoon.
